Fun with Folk Art - A workshop in design elements for folk art quilt making. This popular 2-day workshop introduces students to a variety of techniques used to create an original folk art style quilt. Students will learn the following techniques which will help them achieve a primitive look to their quilts: fusible appliqué, creating scrap borders, embellishing, tea dyeing, sewing with plaids and homespuns, simplifying drawings for folk art designs and primitive embroidery. The art of "making do" is a focus for this project. Day one will be spent designing the quilt, choosing fabrics and piecing the background for the quilt. By day two, students will begin adding the appliqué and any other techniques they would like to try. As this is a design class, students must have quilting experience. SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate/Advanced
